JC TriToon
Spirit 240TT Fish Super Sport
First Impression
When did fishing boats get so loaded with posh amenities? The answer is, when JC TriToon got involved. The evolution of fishing pontoons has been amazing and with offerings such as this Spirit 24, if you can’t catch a fish at least you know you’ll be comfortable.
Highlights
Starting with the specific fishing amenities, there are four fishing chairs on board in each corner of the boat, but our two favorites are located in the stern. Between the two chairs in the aft is a lockable tackle storage cabinet with a drawer from Boat Outfitters, a division of Teak Isle. Products from Boat Outfitters are now being offered on the Spirit line and we discovered two more of its designs built in the backs of the bow chaise lounges. On the port side is a lockable glove box with a USB port, and a flip out trash can below. Directly across in the other chaise on the starboard side is a hidden cubby with a slide out drawer that maximizes this normally wasted space.
Both angling areas near the fishing seats include rod storage and rod holders with two “trophy-sized” livewells on board so you’re free to max out your limit.
The reclining and fully adjustable helm chair on the elevated platform adds comfort and visibility for the captain. There are three multi-function gauges centered on the dash with a Lowrance Hook Reveal fish and depth finder on a gimbal mount. Accessing the wiring and the back of the gauges is a cinch with the flip top helm cap, something this manufacturer has been offering for years that we absolutely love.
Why we love this boat…Custom fishing accessories, rail-mounted rod holders, in tube rod storage and two massive livewells compliment the four fishing chairs. Anglers are going to love it.
Other features worth noting include the high speed electric Bimini top, an in-floor ski locker, stainless ski/tow bar, dedicated fender storage, an anchor locker in the bow, ottoman cooler, and JC’s heavy-duty super ladder.
Inspection
The optional Super Sport High Tide Hull includes U-shaped pontoons that are designed to withstand the horsepower and torque increases of the next generation of outboard engines. One advantage of the HTH is an additional 3 inches of freeboard above the water, generating a drier, softer ride in rough water. It also allows space between the pontoon deck and the pontoons for a bow anchor locker and a deeper in-tube storage compartment. On average, the HTH hull adds 400 pounds that contributes to the softer ride.
Just being picky…This is a feature-rich model with over-the-top fishing amenities. Really all that is missing is a wash down, but otherwise it is set up for angling success.
Performance
Paired with the new Stealth 150hp four-stroke from Suzuki Marine, the Spirit comfortably surpassed the 30 mph mark at full throttle after a zero-to-20 mph time of just under 6 seconds. Thanks to the standard power assist hydraulic steering, she banked with ease in the sharp turns and handled beautifully. With an overbuilt, well-constructed pontoon like this one you may want to consider a higher horsepower outboard to maximize the Super Sport High Tide Hull, but as tested it will get you to your favorite fishing spots just fine.
Final Thoughts
Another catch for JC TriToon with an extremely comfortable and feature-rich fishing model that is centered around keeping the anglers in your group happy, but also has plenty of other amenities for everyone to enjoy. As tested with a combination of standard features and key options, this Spirit will get you to your honey hole in style.
