black Viaggio Lago pontoon with green accents in the water
Viaggio
Lago X22Q
First Impression
In 2024 Viaggio did a full redesign of its Lago series and divided it into three separate classes. This X22Q is a mid-line version between its entry-level V and its luxurious Z. After a closer look the X might just be the most popular Lago because of all the customization possibilities, plus it feels like a high-end model that comes in at a budget-friendly price.
Highlights
There is nothing mid-level about the beautiful helm console that includes two 5-inch multi-function gauges, a phone charging pad, cubby storage, a row of vertical toggle switches, as well as access to the Clarion sound system. Also for the captain is a tall reclining helm chair with movable armrests. And the good news is there are three more identical seats for your passengers with dual cupholders and USB ports for each section. Having a total of four helm chairs on board makes for an ideal double date for two couples. In the bow there are even more comfortable seats with cupholders and USB ports recessed into the layout. Built into the back of the port side chaise lounger is a cabinet insert from Boat Outfitters, a division of Teak Isle, that provides a fold-out table, storage cubby and a pull-out drawer with pet food dishes inside. Boat Outfitters is best known for getting the most out of every square inch of your boat and this is certainly true here. Another unique feature is the table/pedestal holder behind the captain’s seat that secures your table when you’re not needing it and goes in between the four helm chairs when you do. Keeping the table out of the way but still accessible makes it truly user-friendly.
Why we love this boat…The only thing “mid-line” about the Lago X is the price point. As tested it is packed with an abundance of high-end features, a creative layout, and thoughtful amenities.
The large in-floor ski locker is an option, but with fewer bench seats compared to other layouts it might be considered a must-have upgrade. In the stern is an extended swim deck with a tall blacked-out Xtreme ski/tow bar that ties in well with the black rails and fencing. Here you will also find the REVO boarding ladder from LilliPad Marine on one side of the deck and its Ghost mounts on the other. The three optional pre-installed mounts make it possible to add popular upgrades from LilliPad such as its flagpole kit, grill post or diving board with ease.
Inspection
There is an over-built vibe to all Viaggio pontoons and it starts with the 27-inch diameter pontoons with lifting strakes and the heavy-duty C-channel cross members that are on 16-inch centers for a solid and well-constructed foundation. Up top the rail height varies from nearly 26 inches tall in the stern to nearly 28 inches tall in the bow, for an extremely safe and family-friendly design.
Just being picky…We love the four helm chair layout, but you do give up some bench seat storage with this floor plan. It had an in-floor ski locker included, but it really should come standard.
Performance
We nearly reached the 40 mph mark at full throttle with the Suzuki 200hp outboard on the back. From an appearance perspective the Stealth black engine ties in well, but we were more impressed by the performance that allowed us to bank nicely in the sharp turns. She handles well, but to get the most out of this pairing we’d recommend upgrading to electric power steering.
Final Thoughts
Lago, which is Italian for lake, is clearly at home on the water and so is this X series model with a black exterior and an Ivy green accent. It’s easy to see why this middle-line from Lago is the most popular in the series.
