The 85th Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show didn’t disappoint. The show attracted tens of thousands of boating enthusiasts from around the world to see and shop for new boats, global debuts, and marine innovations. I was on the hunt for pontoon models when I stumbled upon something truly unique.

I was half expecting Crockett and Tubbs to be signing autographs at the Starcraft booth, with the Miami Vice soundtrack blaring in the background. The colorful pink and teal accents popped beautifully on one of its white fiberglass deck boats. They call it the Bermuda package, yet the vibe seems to scream, “Miami Vice.” The fun color scheme drew me in, but a hidden surprise emerged upon closer inspection.

The boat on display was part of Starcraft’s new SV Jet Series, pairing this deck boat with a Rotax jet-propelled engine. Its prop-free design makes it one of the safest deck boats on the market, giving swimmers, kids, and watersports enthusiasts confidence. The spacious open-cockpit layout offers generous seating, a full sundeck, and multiple port-side chaise lounge configurations, all without a windshield to interrupt the open-air experience.

The proven dihedral-vee hull design delivers a comfortable, stable ride by minimizing spray and reducing hull motion. To further customize your time on the water, an optional speed controller lets you select between ski, cruise control, ECO, and docking engine modes.

Starting around $32K with a 170hp Rotax engine on its J7 model, the line also includes the J7 SS (230hp) and the J9 SS (300hp).

This new series will change the deck boat segment, putting Starcraft in a position to pounce on this segment of the boating industry. All that was missing in the booth would have been Sonny Crockett to sum this all up with his famous quote, “There are two kinds of people in this world: predators and prey. Guess which one I am?!”

Pontoons On Display
If your main objective is to get on as many different pontoons as you can at a boat show, Miami shouldn’t be your first choice. Across the country from January to March, there are many better boat shows if you’re only after pure quantity of pontoon models. However, inside the South Beach Convention Center, a handful of the top pontoon manufacturers were well represented. This included a couple of Starcraft pontoons at their booth, something they’ve offered at this show for years. Godfrey also had its Sanpan on display in its booth, fresh off an NMMA Innovation Award from the Minneapolis Boat Show. Bennington showed off its price versatility with three pontoons on display, ranging from its beautiful twin-engine QX to its M Series. Sea-Doo had a couple of its Switch pontoons in its booth. Then Barletta came to the show with the most pontoon boats on display in its booth, but that was only one way this manufacturer made a huge splash in its Miami debut.
Seakeeper Ride
Barletta was looking to prove its partnership with Seakeeper was a true game-changer by offering demo rides out of the Miami Beach Marina. What better way to showcase Seakeeper Ride for pontoons than taking the Barletta Lusso out in the Atlantic!

The bottom of the pontoons was modified to a flat surface so the tubes could be paired with Seakeeper’s proven Seakeeper Ride system. The collaboration earned the companies an NMMA Innovation Award in Minneapolis a month earlier and having it on the water helped back up the sudden hype.

We took it out for a spin in some truly rough water and could instantly feel a difference as we switched the system on and off throughout the demo ride. One misconception might be that pairing the Seakeeper Ride on the Barletta would only improve how the pontoon turns, which it clearly and drastically did. However, that was only part of what makes this pairing so special. As we went straight into the rough water, we were impressed by all the automatic adjustments the system made under the water, which delivered a smooth ride. On smaller lakes that don’t get too rough, this system might be overkill, but in the ocean or on large bodies of water such as the Great Lakes, you will truly feel the difference.
