After “messing about” with Moeller’s new Gas Walker 14, the portable quick-fill fuel station has become a welcome addition to my boating “stuff.” While it served as a great backup for fueling the family deck boat, as seen in the photo, the portable tank has come into its own as the primary fuel source for our vintage Jet Ski, a 1994 Kawasaki 650 SC side-by-side. We disconnected the Kawasaki’s oil reservoir to allow us to use premixed gasoline, and the 14 gallons of gravity-fed fuel can last us through a weekend no matter where we decide to cruise, especially in off-the-beaten-path waterways we like to explore where fuel docks are not an option.

It’s very easy to assemble, fill via a 2-inch-diameter filler neck with vented cap, and to use, with the fuel flow controlled by a traditional-style pump squeeze handle that also primes the system. One downside is that when full its weight can make it a struggle to walk down an incline – especially a grassy approach to a dock, which I learned firsthand. Folks who have approached me after watching us use the Gas Walker have been intrigued and I have probably “sold” a handful just by demonstrating how it functions for us. The only suggestion I might have is to beef up the 6-inch-diameter wheels a bit, but for the money ($200) it’s a great fuel accessory to have for our varied boating purposes.
