Rust Stopper
By Roy Sparks
No matter how hard we try to avoid it, rust is a common issue boaters have to deal with. When we see rust on iron, we see a crumbly, reddish brown substance that has formed over time. But rust isn’t just a new color on some metal. It’s the product of a chemical reaction that becomes corroded over time, resulting in rust. As boaters we know all too well that in most cases what causes rust is the presence of water, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to stop boating any time soon.

Protecting your boat trailer, tow vehicle and other metals from rust is a challenge, but there are products that can help. I recently tested STA-BIL’s Rust Stopper, which is an aerosol protectant that puts an end to the damaging effects of rust.

Metal is known for its strength, but it’s not immune to the elements. Rust Stopper reduces the risk of rust damage with a simple spray-on product to help keep it rust-free. I tried it out on our boat trailer, trailer hitch and other metals and it works great. And at around $10 a can it’s an inexpensive option for preventing rust that is most effective when used as part of your routine maintenance.
