Who doesn’t love a good success story? You know, that self-made journey from nothing type of tale that has you rooting for the company to succeed. After digging into the backstory on Sunchill you can add our names to the list of those who are cheering for Hans Burri.

Growing up, Hans and his friends were always seeking ways to elevate their time on the water. Cheap float mats were everywhere but he didn’t feel they were cutting it, especially for big groups. Hans wanted a float that was portable and quick to assemble, but could also take on the whole family, pups included.

In August 2020 he came up with the idea of creating the ultimate water hammock with a supportive net in the middle. At first all production took place in his mom’s garage, where he personally handled tasks such as cutting, welding, printing, and boxing before delivering the products to UPS in a borrowed SUV.

Marketing success came organically through social media as well as by exhibiting at boat shows across the country. The operation eventually transitioned from the garage to a second, third, and now fourth production facility in Vero Beach, Fla.

However, the journey was not without its challenges, including perfecting the curvature of the drop-stitch fabric (similar to the material used to make stand-up paddle boards) and innovating seam heat-welding techniques to prevent air leakage forever.

Hans tirelessly worked on the design, including the development of poly-pro netting and unique accessories like detachable drink holders. With a couple of dozen prototypes and some bold career decisions, Hans officially launched Sunchill in March 2021 and continues to expand in every imaginable way.

Priced at $699 with a 5-year warranty and a tagline that it would be the last float we would ever need to buy, we decided to give it a try. It is made with high-tech poly pro fabric netting and offers a unique and comfortable lounging experience distinct from traditional pool floats. Plus, with over two dozen color combinations, there’s something for everyone.

The Sunchill inflates in just 90 seconds, weighs in at 18 pounds, and rolls up to the size of a sleeping bag so it easily can be stored on your pontoon or deck boat. The circular seams of the patent-pending Sunchill are heat-welded for extra strength and durability, meaning this float has no weight limit, not to mention it’s even dog-proof!

Built with three stainless steel D-rings permanently fastened along the edge, we like to tie it to the back of the pontoon and just chill. Yes, it’s easy to root for this startup company, but it also helps when they offer a quality product that boaters will absolutely love.
