Why we love this boat… The customized look with an impressive number of options, including perfectly color-matched features, truly catches your eye and demands your attention.

Just being picky… There’s not a lot of room in the stern to towel off after using the boarding ladder before coming inside the boat through the stainless steel gate.

First Impression
There is something about a perfectly color-matched boat that just jumps out and catches your attention, yet this Trifecta goes above and beyond in an elegant way. The yellow exterior accent color can be found in the smallest details, right down to the furniture and flooring inside.

Highlights
Obviously the first thing that stands out is the vibrant yellow color, but again, it’s done in a high-end and luxurious way. It complements the darker vinyl seats, and the pop of yellow is also found in the trim of the optional well-cushioned SeaDek flooring. Even the Yamaha outboard is custom painted with a yellow tie-in with the majority of the engine color-matched in the same slate color as the massive ski/tow bar.

As for the actual seats, they were created by Wieland Designs and we especially love the hidden storage compartments in the backrests in the bow and stern areas that include a USB port inside each of the four. Also built into the seatbacks are ample cupholders and recessed speakers to ensure your tunes reach your ears and not just your ankles. Speaking of sound systems, the Wet Sounds upgrade does not disappoint. It includes 8-inch speakers along with a subwoofer and an amp for an amazing sound experience. In the stern is a remote so you can access your tunes from the sandbar, but the main controls are located at the helm console.

Also at the dash are a variety of analog gauges with a Simrad touchscreen off-set to the right. The lighted push buttons at the console are well-labeled, and the Scanstrut wireless phone charger is part of the standard features. Also within the captain’s reach is the switch for the power Bimini top that comes standard.

We’re big fans of the Revolution helm chair that slides, swivels and reclines, and there is an identical one directly across for the first mate. Both are from Wieland Designs which helps provide the modern and upgraded look Forest River Marine is going for.

Other elegant details include a stainless stern gate that looks more like a work of art than a functional entryway. It leads to a swimdeck which includes a four-step stainless boarding ladder. We just wish there was a little more deck space back here, but overall we love the floorplan.

Inspection
Below deck, the Z42 chassis includes a zero wood, zero rot, zero seams and zero expansion/contraction composite floor while being 40 percent lighter and two times stronger than marine-grade plywood. This specific model was equipped with the optional 3.0 Performance package that includes a third 25-inch diameter pontoon with lifting strakes on both sides, aluminum underskin, large lifting strakes on the inside of the outer tubes and SeaStar hydraulic steering.

Performance
With a few more upgrades you could bump up to as high as 450hp, which is the maximum for this pontoon, but the Yamaha 200hp SHO held its own. She handled well and jumped up on plane quickly while reaching a top speed of just over 40 mph.

Final Thoughts
Clearly loaded with upgrades, this particular boat felt very customized and dialed in, but of course the price as tested won’t be for every budget. We truly love the look and feel of this sporty yet elegant model that was born to catch your attention.
