My cringe factor bumps up to unsafe levels when I see fuel spilling into the lake at marina gas docks. Not that I don’t trust the 16-year-old summer help who is gassing up my pontoon, but I usually insist on doing it myself to avoid fuel contaminating the water. What’s my secret? Why am I able to remain worry-free while pumping my own fuel? It’s because I discovered a simple, yet effective tool that every boat should come standard with.

The CLiX fuel spill prevention product is simply brilliant and earned a lot of attention at the 2024 IBEX Show. The Arthur Edison LLC device known as CLiX, received the coveted NMMA Innovation Award that year, which kept Howard Silverstein and his brother Steven very busy in their booth all week.

After talking with the brothers I knew I needed to try it out for myself to confirm it really works as well as they said it did and I’m happy to report this product is legit. CLiX allows you to refuel your boat with ease and precision without the fear of overflow. It takes the stress and mess out of boat fueling by keeping the fuel in the tank, not on the boat or in the water.

The custom-made material even has an additive to reduce the risk of sparking when fueling, because safety is always a priority. The best way to describe the ease is to compare it with gassing up our vehicles. The self-shutoff fuel nozzles at my local station work great when fueling up my truck. The CLiX (priced at $29.95 and made in the USA) allows the marina pump self-shutoff to work the same way for your boat when the stakes of overflowing are much higher than just spilling on the gas station asphalt. Priced well and designed for years worth of fill-ups, CLiX is the real deal.
