Captain’s Chair
“I wasn’t able to even drive a car, much less ride on a boat. In a lot of ways it felt like I was on home arrest, minus the felony.”

My Bummer Of A Summer Ends Well
“It is not how you start the race or where you are during the race – it is how you cross the finish line that will matter.” This quote from Robert D. Hales took on a different meaning for me after my summer was unexpectedly hijacked. I had such high hopes back in the spring as we headed towards boating season and warmer temperatures.

In April I took delivery on a brand-new M24 demo boat from Bennington Marine and was about to purchase a season pass to our nearby launch ramp when my plans drastically changed. This beautiful boat was on loan for the summer and I was looking forward to putting the throttle down on the Yamaha 250hp outboard, but life had a different plan.

Ready To Tuck Your Boat In For The Season?
Easy steps to prep your boat for winter
Before I became a boat owner, my winterizing routine included topping off my van’s windshield wiper fluid and tearing out the spent pumpkin vines from the garden. Now that I’ve added a pontoon boat to my list of happy possessions, things are a bit more complicated. But still doable!

Here’s a simple checklist on how to prepare your boat for winter storage, whether you’re keeping it on your towing trailer or taking it out of the marina for the first time since your spring launch.

Fishing On The Fly
Have you ever been on a sunset cruise and realized too late the fish are crashing bait all around you, but you’ve forgotten to pack your fishing gear? With the new JC TriToon Floor Lid from Boat Outfitters, a division of Teak Isle, you can always have a little tackle and a few rods tucked safely away so you can fish on the spur of the moment. While most floor lids limit your storage options, the JC Floor Lid includes mounting holes for rod holders. The holders can fold out of the way if you want to store other items in the area, but are perfect for rods when needed with Teak Isle’s Lock and Load bungee push-in system, which will hold rods securely in place. Sneak peek at what’s coming next

For some, boating is a year round adventure. However, for the majority of boaters who live in sun-starved regions, the boating season has an expiration date. Let’s be honest: the cold months we endure between summer seasons can be brutal, which only makes winter feel longer.

Time can appear to tick by slowly after we winterize our boats and the only thing that seems to help get us to spring is boat show season. You can find a boat show practically every weekend starting in January and it’s not the overpriced hot dogs that get us to these convention centers and fair grounds. It’s the chance to see the new models that the pontoon and deck boat manufacturers have been working on and we’re just as excited as you are to see these boats in person.

To help get you properly prepared for January, we’re offering a glimpse of some of those new models and significant changes coming for model year 2026. Think of it as a boat show preview or a sneak peek at what’s new in our segment of the boating industry.

Award-Winning Tackle for ‘26

Each summer, fishing tackle manufacturers large and small head to Orlando, Fla., to showcase their latest products at a trade show called “ICAST,” which stands for the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades, produced by the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), the sportfishing industry’s trade association.

As usual, thousands of its members of the global recreational fishing industry converged upon the Orange County Convention Center this past July with their offerings for the 2026 season. Making up a special section of ICAST’s show floor, is a “New Product Showcase” that features the tackle industry’s latest innovations. The products making their marketplace debut vie for honors of “Best Of” in 24 categories including the highly coveted overall “Best of Show.” Buyers and media representatives judge the products based on their level of innovation, execution, workmanship and practicality.

CLiX Fueling Solutions

An overhead close-up shows a green fuel nozzle inserted into the fuel fill port of a boat, which has a dark gray hull. A bright orange funnel-like adapter is being used in the fuel opening. A "WARNING: FUEL SYSTEM UNDER PRESSURE" sticker is visible on the hull nearby.

My cringe factor bumps up to unsafe levels when I see fuel spilling into the lake at marina gas docks. Not that I don’t trust the 16-year-old summer help who is gassing up my pontoon, but I usually insist on doing it myself to avoid fuel contaminating the water. What’s my secret? Why am I able to remain worry-free while pumping my own fuel? It’s because I discovered a simple, yet effective tool that every boat should come standard with.

The CLiX fuel spill prevention product is simply brilliant and earned a lot of attention at the 2024 IBEX Show. The Arthur Edison LLC device known as CLiX, received the coveted NMMA Innovation Award that year, which kept Howard Silverstein and his brother Steven very busy in their booth all week.
