Captain’s Chair
“It’s similar to how parents of twin children get annoyed when a stranger asks them a question in the grocery store, but if that stranger leads with, ‘I have twins too,’ then suddenly they’re best friends.”

Is Your Boat Pet-Friendly?
I’ll let you in on a little social media secret because we’re friends. On your next post, include a dog in the photo, then stand back and watch all the heart emojis pour in. A heartbreaking post about your dear aunt suddenly passing away won’t get half the responses a good dog pic will. You don’t even need to include any words or explanation; just a photo of a cute little pooch cuddling up on the seat of your pontoon should do the trick.

The only thing dog owners love more than their pets is showing them off to other people. Pet parents, you know who you are. I have friends who spent more time trying to decide on what to name their new pup than they did selecting their own children’s names.

Must-have pet gear for your boat days
By Rebecca Blackson
Does your dog love boating as much as mine does? Whenever we’re packing up our sunscreen, boating clothes, and picnic lunch, my labradoodle Millie starts shaking with excitement—especially if she sees us load the boat with life jackets. The more my family takes Millie out for boat rides, the more we’ve learned that it’s helpful to have a few specific products to keep her happy and safe during our lake day. Here are a few that we’ve found helpful.
A black dog swims in clear blue water with a toy in its mouth, with a blue floating ring and fetch stick in the foreground.
Floating Water Chew Toy
To elevate your dog’s playtime in water, the Interactive Floating Chew Toy from Funny Fuzzy is perfect for water fun. Built to withstand even the toughest chewers, the toy stays afloat so your dog can easily fetch it when you toss it into the lake. Both the ball and stick versions of the toy come with built in squeakers that encourage play, and the textured surface of the toy aids in cleaning your dog’s teeth and massaging their gums. Available in three shapes—a stick, tire, and ball—the floating toy is just $14.99. (www.funnyfuzzy.com)
A sturdy, double-walled stainless steel dog bowl from YETI in a navy blue finish with a non-slip base.
Yeti Dog Bowl
My dog is hungry everywhere, and definitely loves dinner on the boat. If yours is the same, consider the Yeti Dog Bowl. It’s not only scoot-resistant and dishwasher safe, but it’s also insulated with Yeti’s vacuum process to maintain the temperature of your dog’s food or water. The rubber rim on the bottom isn’t a suction cup; instead, friction holds it firmly in place so your dog doesn’t have to chase it around the floor. Available in seven colors with the option to personalize it with your dog’s name, the four-cup version is a deal at $40. (www.yeti.com)
A matching waterproof dog collar and leash set in a bright mint green color featuring a subtle shark silhouette pattern.
Waterproof Dog Collar
For the perfect collar for a dog that loves the outdoors, look no further than the Inshore Ambition from Boat Dog. This adjustable waterproof dog collar has a rugged outer layer that repels water, resists odors, and is easy to clean. Every collar fastens with a strong nylon buckle that endures exposure to all saltwater and freshwater environments. The 1/8-inch-thick stainless-steel D-ring is rust-resistant and can withstand even the strongest dogs. Plus, it’s a great deal at only $34.99. (www.boatdogcompany.com)

Extended Lounging Space
For owners who use their boats as a social space, the REEF Deck from Mission Outdoors becomes an extension of the boat itself, perfect for tie-ups, swimming breaks, and laid-back afternoons. REEF DECK inflates in minutes to create a spacious, stable surface that extends your pontoon. It features integrated back supports and a detachable cooler that doubles as a step, and it folds down into a compact roller bag with plenty of room to spare – so you can invite the entire crew without feeling cramped. Wendy Funk named her Stingray 192SC after her favorite dog Nash who is a regular on her boating adventures.
Right Place
At The Right Time
There are people who think they adore dogs and then there is Wendy Funk. Wendy’s love for four-legged creatures as a foster parent is on a higher level than most, extending beyond the average caring person’s love of animals. She’s rescued more dogs than she can recall and karma rewarded her with a favorable deal on a Stingray deck boat from Long Level Marina.

Wendy first bought a Kawasaki STX 160 Jet Ski in 2020, becoming a marina customer. At an early-season customer appreciation happy hour hosted by owners Dave and Sharon Kline, the Pennsylvania marina showcased its new Avalon and Stingray boats. It was then that Wendy spotted the Stingray 192SC deck boat with a Suzuki 150hp engine.

“I saw this one and locked eyes on it, but after some thought, I decided against buying it,” recalls Wendy. “All summer I’d joke with Dave or Sharon about whether they had sold my boat yet.”

Turning Back The Hands Of Time
Oldest known Sanpan receives a full makeover
By Brady L. Kay
At just 10 years old, Larson Sailor purchased a 1964 Sanpan from his neighbor, the same neighbor to whom he delivered newspapers to. The original owner had bought the boat new, but because he was dying he wanted the young boy to have the boat.

That purchase marked the start of a memorable childhood. Like many in Indiana, Larson and his family enjoyed years on the local waters. He credits that first pontoon with sparking his lifelong passion for boating.

“My dad delivered papers to the guy who bought the boat, and that fellow was dying and wanted my dad to have it,” recalls Brent Sailor. “He went home and asked my grandpa if he could buy it. I believe the actual money came from my Grandpa. However, the boat was always considered my dad’s. His parents had other boats, but this boat was his to do with as he wished.”

Over the years, the vintage Sanpan remained in the family, eventually being used with his own young family. Brent recalls barely being tall enough to see over the steering wheel, but he would steer the boat while trolling at a slow speed while his dad fished off the back.

Coastal Canopy Released
Engineered to withstand salt, sun and surf
Protecting your pontoon from the sun can be difficult, especially in coastal environments. Waterfront Brands offers a solution with its new Coastal Canopy System, designed specifically for these conditions. The canopy features aluminum framing and marine-grade construction to withstand salt, sun and surf.

Designed for real-world performance, the Coastal Canopy System pairs corrosion-resistant materials with a streamlined, low-profile design that enhances both strength and aesthetics. Its modular framework simplifies installation and adapts easily across multiple boat lift and dock brands, while stocked and custom options give contractors and dealers the flexibility to meet diverse site requirements with confidence and efficiency.

“This canopy is about more than protection—it’s about bringing smart engineering and contemporary design together,” said Corey Duke, CEO of Waterfront Brands. “We worked closely across all of our teams and at every stage of development to ensure the Coastal Canopy System delivers the strength, longevity, and style today’s customers expect from a premium marine product.”

A Versatile Advantage
The boat that does it all
If you’re looking for a boat that’s as versatile as it is fun, then look no further than a deck boat. With a performance hull ready to engage in watersports and the comfort of pontoon seating, the deck boat segment continues to grow in popularity. The traditional V-hull shape allows you to get enough thrilling performance to blow your hair back, all while lounging across an open floorplan and spacious seating. Here’s our roundup of 10 excellent deck boat options.

Bayliner D22
The revamped D22 is reimagined, refined, and ready to make waves with the next generation of boaters. The new outboard version brings together the best of the D series in one stunning package, blending eye-catching hull sculpting and stylish sheer lines with the comfort and functionality that today’s boaters demand.

Plush upholstery, transitional cockpit seating, and wraparound transom lounging create an on-water retreat designed for those who refuse to compromise. Multi-function gauges with fog-resistant glass lenses at the helm are easy to read in any condition. Tilt steering and a custom sport steering wheel come standard, along with a swivel helm seat.

Viaggio’s Lago X is the intersection of affordability and high-end comfort
By rebecca blackson
If you’re on the hunt for your next boat, it’s time to put down your treasure map. Viaggio’s Lago X model is where needs and wants converge to give you the ideal mix of layout options, décor combinations, and an affordable price point with that desirable high-end look and feel.

At PDB magazine, we’re always eager to test the latest models on the market, so we were thrilled to take the Lago X22S out for a recent spin on the water. From the open floorplan and soft vinyl seating to the high-backed helm chairs and buttery-smooth electric steering, we found plenty to admire.

The popularity of the Lago X ranks it as THE top-seller for the manufacturer. Andrew Stanfield, vice president of sales at Viaggio Pontoons said, “The Lago X is our best-selling line and one of our most versatile models, offering a wide range of price points and delivering excellent value for the investment.” And it’s clear to see why it’s at the top.

Which is the best time to pontoon?
Illustration of a woman wearing a life jacket and standing in a small boat
There are two kinds of pontoon people in this world: the Early Morning Saints and the Golden Hour Glamour Captains. Both believe they have unlocked the secret to perfect cruising, and both are absolutely certain the other group is doing it wrong. I know which one I fall under, but as in all debates, it’s a good idea to hear the arguments for both sides.
Team Early Morning: The Coffee & Quiet Crowd
Early morning pontooners rise before everyone else on the lake has located their flip-flops. The water is calm. The air is cool. The only sounds are birds, the gentle hum of the outboard, and someone whispering, “Did you pack the thermos?”

Morning cruising has undeniable perks: The lake looks like glass. Not just “kind of smooth,” but there’s a gorgeous, reflection-of-the-clouds, nature-screensaver smooth. With no wake from ski boats yet, your pontoon doesn’t rock like a nervous couch. You can claim your favorite sandbar before anyone else even finds their keys.
